Since 1983, C-Weed Aquaculture has been growing, harvesting and drying organic edible seaweeds on the coast of Saint-Malo, in Brittany, France. Their seaweeds, which include Wakame (Undaria pinnatifida), Sugar Kelp (Saccharina latissima), and Atlantic wakame (Alaria esculenta), are farmed at a depth of around 10 meters using environmentally friendly sustainable culture methods allowing biodiversity preservation, and oxygen production. After harvesting, the organic seaweeds are naturally dried in the open air. The gentle drying (30°C) and progressive process does not significantly alter the raw material: texture, taste and nutritional quality of the seaweeds is preserved.
As part of the organic certification of C-Weed’s products and in compliance with French regulations, the company regularly carries out heavy metal and microbiological analyses using independent, authorized laboratories. Moving beyond food, C-Weed is also growing strains for blue colorants to be used in cosmetics. These allow customers to add a sea-based extract in the palette of active ingredients to create a variety of cosmetic products.
