Farming Algae for Profitability

 Seagriculture EU 2024

In this TED Talk we learn how Yao Huang’s enthusiasm for finding innovative and carbon-reducing business opportunities led her to become an algae farmer. Yao’s unique and fascinating talk shows us how removing industrial carbon dioxide can be scaled and industrialized, making a significant dent in our CO₂ emissions while maintaining profitability.

Yao is on the board of Carbon Optimum, a carbon sequestering company removing carbon dioxide from polluting plants while producing biomass for carbon-negative fuel, fertilizer, food, and methane-reducing animal feed. As an investor and tech veteran, she is on a mission to amplify green investment initiatives, particularly those using algae to combat climate change. She has a particular passion for scalable, executable and female-led climate solutions.

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
