seagriculture.eu

For 33 years Dr. Amha Belay was Chief Technology Officer for Southern California’s Earthrise Nutritionals — one of the world’s largest spirulina farms. In this video interview he describes the challenges and his accomplishments in maintaining spirulina cultures and reducing production costs. He forecasts that, within this decade, economies of scale, automation, and extraction of valuable components may allow spirulina to become a truly competitive protein source.

Currently, working with Algae4All, Dr. Belay is consulting on spirulina production projects and microfarms in Ethiopia and Africa, to make spirulina more available to people at the community level.
